Zona Internacional de Industria y Logística S.A. is a project for the construction of an industrial and logistics park in the city of Rivera, on the northernmost border between the Republic of Uruguay and the Republic of Brazil, to operate as a free trade zone to be developed in a total area of 4,860,000 square meters, under Law 15921 of 17 December 1987 and Law 19566 of 8 December 2017.
The city of Rivera is currently under a bi-national regime with the city of Santana do Livramento in the Republic of Brazil.
There is a fully operational international airport located in Rivera, yet functional for both cities.
Customs is already functioning with Uruguayan and Brazilian staff members in the same office to authorize terrestrial cargo coming from or going to Brazil.
The city of Rivera is connected to Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay and its natural deep-water port, which is also used by Argentina and Brazil, through Route No. 5, a modern and perfectly signposted route that crosses the country along 500 kilometers and passing by our Free Trade Zone located on kilometer 480 of this route.
The connection with the south of Brazil is 12 km away, where the Customs office and the administrative border with Brazil are located, connected with a National Brazilian route that goes all the way to the capital city of the south of Brazil, Porto Alegre, 390 kilometers away. From this point, National Brazilian route No. 116 crosses the country from south to north, joining several ports and Brazilian state capitals.
The great extension of the Trade Zone allows for the setup of small, medium-sized and large businesses, with available areas covering from 1,200 to 200,000 square meters.
The fiscal benefits entail total exemption from direct and indirect taxes, both for the goods and services that circulate within the Trade Zone and for the profits generated from these activities. Said exemption includes all national taxes already in force or to be created in the future.
The Uruguayan national labor employed within the Trade Zone is taxed with the social duties and labor benefits legally in force in the Republic of Uruguay, while the foreign staff can opt for paying contributions in their country of origin. Each venture can employ up to 25% of foreign staff; however, a special authorization is required for a higher percentage.
